THAILAND is a popular holiday destination for Brits wanting some winter sun.

But the country’s main airport is said to be haunted – with terrifying sightings over the years.

Suvarnabhumi Airport just outside of Bangkok’s city centre, is where most travellers will fly into before their Thai break.

Having opened in 2006, many may not realise that it was built on an ancient cemetery.

And it has since had a number of sighting of ghosts throughout the years, as well as accidents that locals have claimed is due to the hauntings.

During its opening ceremony, the airport held a ritual to banish spirits which included 99 Thai Buddhist monks, who prayed for nine weeks.

At the end of the ritual, a man named Poo Ming, who worked as a baggage handler, claimed he was the “deceased guardian” of the ceremony.

The monks then “blessed” the man, who returned to his normal self although it is said the ghostly guardian remains on the site, looking like a blue ghost with a walking stick.

And since then, travellers have claimed they have seen a number of spooky situations.

Other spectres include a ghost dubbed the “pale woman” who carries a baby, as well as footsteps when there is no one around, as well as terrifying screams.

In 2017, a pilot captured images showing a dozen “ghosts” walking across a gangway.

Bangkok Airways pilot Voravit Vejjajiva took the footage from the cockpit – but not everyone believed the footage.

And sightings have even been reported during accidents at the airport.

In 2013, a Thai Airways plane skidded off the runway, with the airline saying it was due to a landing gear malfunction.

Some passengers said they saw a ghost in a traditional costume helping with the evacuation and rescue of passengers.

At the time Managing Director of Thai Airways, Mr Sorajak Kasemsuvan even said they would conduct a ceremony due to the spirits at the haunted airport and would thank the spirits for their help.

And a number of car accidents near the airport have been linked to ghosts, with a woman said to walk out in front of cars.

The airport now has a spirit house inside, which are often found across Thailand and are used to respect the dead and protect the living.

There are a number outside as well, due to there being “so many ghosts” in the area.

Thankfully, the majority of travellers going through the Suvarnabhumi Airport are uneventful.

The airport saw as many as 65million passengers travel through in 2019, although this number dropped to as low as five million during the pandemic.

And just last month, the airport revealed its new terminal, connected to the main building by train with 28 gates.

Airlines Air Asia X, VietJet & Emirates will operate from there.

But if you want to go somewhere haunted, thankfully the UK is home to some terrifying villages and towns.

A tiny village in Kent has been dubbed the most “haunted place in Britain”.

Pluckley, home to just 1,000 people, has had a number of ghosts reported including the screaming man, the highwayman and the schoolmaster.
