Poor jockeys will have the heating on as the rest of us bask in this sunshine… we can’t let sauna row end quietly

WHAT a beautiful day in the UK – but not if you are a jockey!

Many of you will have been basking in glorious sunshine and temperatures of 27 or 28 degrees. Summer has arrived.

GettyJockeys will be going to horrible lengths to lose weight during this mini-heatwave with saunas still outlawed[/caption]

For many riders it will have been a day for jumping in the sauna, sticking the sweat gear on for the car and then turning the heater up.

That’s because the British Horseracing Authority and Racecourse Association have left them with no choice.

Talk on saunas has gone quiet, mainly because people get bored of a subject like this in this great sport.

No one is discussing the ridiculous King George ban handed out to Jim Crowley either.

Another example of how those in charge get away with things. Journalists and the public just move on. It’s the nature of the lazy life most lead.

Jockeys are still without saunas on track. Nothing has changed over the last few weeks.

The powers that be have come up with no alternative. There is nothing in the pipeline to replace saunas. Jockeys are in limbo.

I merely write about this today to keep it in your mind. I can’t change the status quo. Only the riders can.

In the meantime, nothing positive happens like with so much in this great sport.

We were going to cut the fixture list once.

Instead we have just about the same fixtures every year, with a few less here and there topped up by more racers on an individual card.

And amongst all that we need to try and tell Government betting is not a bad pastime but a good one. An intelligent one. I wonder who is doing that and how?

On the racing front all roads lead to Haydock this weekend for a six furlong dash with the final British Classic, the St Leger, just around the corner at Doncaster.

Shaquille will be the big name on Saturday, and most will hope his winning run continues in the big sprint under James Doyle.

The closing part of the Flat season has gone well for Doyle, who won the Yorkshire Oaks on Warm Heart and the Solario on Aablan.

That’s two huge wins for Coolmore and Godolphin.

I’d imagine Doyle is a man who has often taken advantage of the saunas on track. It can’t be easy for him.

But he’s a super talented jockey and he should be getting big race success.

It’s a real pleasure to see him back at the big table. Doyle is just too good to be picking up scraps.
