Firefly chief exec James Hygate said: “Biosolids are kind of disgusting stuff but an amazing resource.
“We’re turning sewage into jet fuel.
“I can’t really think of many things that are cooler than that.”
Anglian Water is to supply biosolids from its waste water treatment process as part of a trial.
The planned factory, in Harwich, Essex, could be delivering fuel by 2028.
SAF production uses 70 per cent less carbon than conventional jet fuel, but is more expensive.
Paul Hilditch, of Firefly, added: “Where there are people, there’s poo.”
