‘Zidane mode activated’ – Watch player score wonder volley in non-league match that leaves fans stunned

A NON-LEAGUE player has been likened to Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane after scoring a wonder goal during a Middlesex County Football League Premier Division match on Saturday.

Clapton Community midfielder James Briggs stepped up to take a free kick just outside the penalty area midway through the first half of the game against Hounslow United Reserves.

He used the set-piece to take a shot at goal, but his strike hit the wall and deflected upwards.

In a moment of sheer magic, Briggs then volleyed the ball directly into the top corner from 25 yards out, leaving spectators stunned.

Even the club’s Twitter admin was left in shock, they tweeted: “GOAL: @CBHounslowUTD Reserves 0-2 Clapton! James Briggs with an absolutely outrageous volley! Unreal!”

Football fans have since flocked to Reddit and Twitter to react to the clip, which has now gone viral.

One person tweeted: “Is it too late to add this to the Puskas? What an effort!”

Another added: “What a finish from a top player. Bravo Briggsy Bravo.”

A third wrote: “If nobody had taken a video of that nobody would ever have believed him when he tells them about it. What a hit son.”

A fourth said: “That’s an unreal strike. Love how he takes the free kick with his right and then hits it so sweetly with the left.”

Clapton Community went on to win the game 3-2 thanks to a brace from Briggs and a goal from Suleyman Zahmoul.

They now sit at the top of the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division, eight points clear of second-placed Shepherd’s Bush.

After the game, Briggs took to Twitter to comment on his wonder goal.

He wrote: “3-2 win! 3 points on the board top of the league and a decent goal to top it off.”
