YouTube announces major change to rival Sky and Virgin Media – but it’ll cost you

YOUTUBE is bringing a new feature to the UK allowing telly lovers to access their streaming services in one place.

The launch takes on the likes of Sky and Virgin Media as an all-in-one platform.

It means you’ll no longer have to switch between apps to catch your favourite shows.

And it’s especially good if you prefer YouTube’s interface to watch your videos.

But unlike the usual YouTube, it’s not free.

YouTube Primetime channels was already available in the US.

But from tonight it’ll be open to UK users with five brands at first.

The big names like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video aren’t on board.

But you will find Paramount+, Lionsgate+, Hayu, History Play and Crime & Investigation Play.

DAZN is expected to follow next.

Anyone will be able to subscribe and watch the services within YouTube.

Amazon Prime Video Channels and Apple TV already offer something similar.

“The need to jump from app to app to get to desired content disrupts and adds friction to the user experience” said Richard Lewis, Director of Partnerships, YouTube UKI.

“Primetime Channels gives users access to official TV, movies or streaming service content all in one place.

“And with Brits increasingly watching YouTube from their TVs, this offering will complete their entertainment journey on the platform.”
