CAN you spot what’s wrong with these tempting photos of cakes?
Most of you won’t be able to tell – though there are some very subtle signs for the eagle-eyed.
A piece of cake?
Can you tell what’s wrong?
Well, the truth behind them is that none of these cake photos are real.
They’re actually generated by AI.
The fake pictures were made using Stable Diffusion, which is able to create any image instantly merely by typing out what you want.
As you may have noticed with the first image, there is something up with the first layer of strawberry filling.
The end of it weirdly turns into more cake sponge.
As for the second image, the slice gives away that it doesn’t quite belong.
The black and white patterns don’t align with where the cut is made.
And the top of the cut slice has no white bits at all – when the rest of the cake does.
While AI is getting scarily clever at creating images, it still has a way to go to appear totally fool proof.
An expert recently revealed some telltale signs to look out for.
These include hands and teeth on people, which AI image generators struggle to deal with at the moment.
AI has also been used to create creepy “AI selfies” of historical figures including Jesus.
