Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Friday warned Congress that the U.S. will hit its statutory debt limit next Thursday and that the Treasury Department will begin taking special cash-preservation measures on Monday to prevent the government from defaulting on its obligations.
“I respectfully urge Congress to act promptly to protect the full faith and credit of the United States,” Yellen wrote a letter addressed to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
