Wycombe players Luke Leahy and Brandon Hanlan rushed to hospital after being stretchered off in Stevenage clash

WYCOMBE stars Luke Leahy and Brandon Hanlan were both rushed to hospital after being stretchered off against Stevenage.

Hanlan, 26, was conscious as he was forced off in the first half and received oxygen from medical staff after he landed heavily after challenging for a ball with Stevenage’s Carl Piergianni.

Leahy also suffered a major injury after taking a whack in his head while challenging for the ball in the air.

After the knock, Leahy landed flat on his face after taking the knock.

The 30-year-old was then stretchered off the pitch after a lengthy medical check and the game resumed.

The match was halted for 14 minutes while the midfielder received attention from the medical staff.

After the game, Wycombe confirmed that both players had been taken to hospital and that Leahy was “conscious” following his injury.

A statement read: “Both Brandon Hanlan and Luke Leahy have been taken to hospital for assessment after sustaining injuries in today’s game.

“We are relieved to report that Luke is conscious and undergoing treatment.”

Fans were quick to share their concern for the Wycombe star on social media.

One posted: “All the best to them both.”

A second commented: “Hope they are ok.”

A third wrote: “Best wishes to both players.”

A fourth said: “Get well soon @lukeleahy. I still have the shirt you gave me a couple of years ago. x”

Another added: “Not a good day!! Wish them both speedy recoveries.”

SunSport have contacted Wycombe for comment.

Stevenage won the game 1-0 after Jamie Reid scored in the first half.

His goal came in at 45+14′ as there was also a long stoppage for Hanlan’s injury.
