‘Wouldn’t inflict that on anyone’ – Gary Lineker refuses ‘grisly’ Match of the Day request if Leicester win Championship

GARY LINEKER insists he won’t present Match of the Day in his underwear if Leicester win the Championship.

The England legend promised to present the football highlights show in his pants if his former club won the Premier League back in 2016.

And on the opening day of the 2016-17 campaign he did just that, wearing only a pair of Leicester-branded white boxers while introducing the programme.

Lineker has since revealed that he would do it again – but only if the Foxes win the Premier League, not the Championship.

However, one fan recently asked the 63-year-old if he would be open to wearing something slightly different if Leicester are crowned Championship winners.

In a Q+A for the Stick to Football podcast, one fan asked: “If Leicester win the Championship, will you present MOTD in just a mankini?”

Lineker was quick to dismiss the idea, responding: “No. No I wouldn’t inflict that on anyone.

“It’s getting almost 10 years on since then (presenting in his boxers).

“I’m getting an old man now, that would be a grisly sight.”

Leicester currently sit at the top of the Championship table, six points clear of second-placed Leeds United.

They are on track to earn automatic promotion to the Premier League, with 12 games remaining this season.

The Foxes were relegated from England’s top tier at the end of the 2022-23 campaign after finishing 18th, two points behind Everton.

Leeds and Southampton also suffered the drop.

However, all three teams could return to the Premier League this season.

With Leicester and Leeds currently occupying the automatic promotion spots, Southampton are in play-off contention.
