One branch in Sweden has a very bizarre claim to fame, as it’s the only McDonald’s in the world to have a ski drive-thru.
Located in the Lindvallen Ski Resort in Sweden, the Lindvallen McDonald’s is more commonly known by its nickname, McSki.
The restaurant, which first opened in 1996, immediately adapted to its snowy location.
Because of the McDonald’s location inside a ski resort, the franchise restaurant has scrapped a typical drive-thru in favour of one on skis.
While both the outside and the inside of the Swedish McDonald’s look fairly normal, with a handful of picnic tables and wooden chairs, the unusual drive-thru is hidden on the other side of the restaurant.
From a small window, holidaymakers can order and collect their fast food grub without having to take off their skis.
At certain times of the year, ice sculptures are also built outside the front of the restaurant.
The restaurant has a seasonal menu too, including donuts, macarons, and Oreo muffins.
Further seating is available inside the restaurant, as well as places to store ski boots, skis and helmets.
In recent years, holidaymakers have been raving about the McSki drive-thru on social media.
TikTok user Cecilie, who is known as ceciliesindallow on the video-sharing platform, recently posted a video about her quick dash through the McDonald’s drive-thru.
In the video, which has been viewed more than three million times, Cecilie slowly skis over to the drive-thru window.
The footage showed a sign above the window, which clearly said “MC Ski”.
She can then be seen placing an order through the window before she skis off with her order.
In the comments, TikTok users expressed interest in skiing, if they were able to nip through the ski drive-thru just like Cecilie.
Other TikTok users have posted similar videos that have shown them skiing through the drive-thru.
While you may think skiers might want a break from the slopes inside the McDonald’s, it seems like the novelty of a ski drive-thru is very much here to stay.
Because of its nature as a franchise, there are plenty of McDonald’s restaurants dotted in unusual locations across the globe, including the North Pole.
While the North Pole is located at the centre northern hemisphere, there’s also a city in Alaska called North Pole.
Located near Fairbanks, the Alaskan city is known for its Christmas decorations, including candy cane street lights and streets named Kris Kringle Drive and Mistletoe Lane.
There’s also a Santa Claus House, which is a festive store decorated with children’s letters to Father Christmas.
In addition to the festive attractions, the yuletide spirit is permanently in full swing at the city’s McDonald’s.
On the outside, the McDonald’s is decorated with candy cane poles and lampposts, while reindeer prints and other Christmas scenes are hung on the inside.
Meanwhile, another McDonald’s has been described as one of the most breathtaking in the world.
Set in Costa Adeje on Playa de Torviscas in Tenerife, holidaymakers have been describing one McDonald’s as having the “best views”.
The restaurant is set directly on a promenade and overlooks a sandy beach and beautiful blue waters.
