STRIKES, snow and a freezing conditions may have made it tough for you to get to work today, so if you’re wishing you could work abroad, you’re not alone.

According to Total Jobs, a bumper 4.5 million Brits say they’d consider working for an overseas firm, with around 44,000 making the move each year.

Applying to a company abroad without contacts or a visa can be difficult, but it’s far easier to move within an international firm which has UK offices.

Some companies even offer placements in foreign offices as part of your role.

Work for an international firm based in the UK

Before you apply for any UK job, research the company and see where else they operate in the world.

The more branches they have worldwide, the more chance you have of landing an overseas placement.

Apply for a secondment scheme

Most big companies offer six-month or one-year overseas placements to build teams globally.

Ask your HR department what your firm’s programme is and how to get involved.

Learn the language

Got you heart set on a particular destination? Getting to grips with the local lingo will show you are serious about making the move and will ensure your application stands out.

Join international networking groups

LinkedIn has a myriad of global networking groups or you can join your company’s internal forum.

Know your visa requirements

Different countries have vastly different requirements for would-be workers, so check out what you’ll need to be accepted.
