‘Work of art’ anniversary Scotland shirt SELLS OUT online almost immediately despite eye-watering price tag

THE new Scotland anniversary kit has went down a storm with Tartan Army fans.

The jersey was released to mark the 150th anniversary of the first recognised game of football in Scotland when 11 Queens Park players faced England in a goalless draw at Hamillton Crescent cricket ground.

Fans are loving the retro jersey

The shirt is sold out online for male and junior sizes

Steve Clarke’s men will host Gareth Southgate’s side at Hampden on September 12 as part of the celebrations to remember that iconic day.

And the SFA released a classy retro strip for the national team to wear for that Auld Enemy clash.

They will also don it for their Euro qualifying double header with Cyprus and Spain this month too.

Made by Adidas, the dark navy strip has a very elegant but simplistic design.

It features both the old-fashioned Lion Rampant crest and Adidas badge, with their iconic three stripes on the sleeve.

It went down a hit with fans when the launch was announced last month with one branding it a “work of art” on social media.

But supporters were left shocked by the price of the retro kit when it was released to the JD stores this morning.

Prices were stated at £90 for adult sizes and £70 for juniors.

It was a staggering amount considering last year’s kits were sold at £65 for adults, £50 for juniors, £45 for children and £20 for infants.

But despite some fans calling it “absolutely criminal” and “utterly ridiculous” it hasn’t stopped them from heading to the online stores and buying them all!

Those who want to buy one of the adult male or junior sizes will need to wait for the next restock or head to a store as the JD website is listed as sold out.

The women’s version is selling fast too with small, medium, large and extra large sizes out of stock as well.

It’s a massive return for the SFA after they only went on sale around 8am this morning.

It looks like there will be plenty of new jerseys in the Hampden crowd when Clarke’s men face Cyprus and Spain in the coming few days.
