Will Smith’s surprise 13-minute speech at Jada Pinkett Smith’s book event: ‘I’ll support her for the rest of my life’

Will Smith made a surprise appearance at wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s book event on Wednesday, despite her admitting last week that the pair secretly separated seven years ago.

In a show of support for his wife, Men in Black star Will, 55, addressed crowds at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, USA.

According to The Baltimore Banner, he spoke about their marriage for 13 minutes while on stage.

“Jada is the best friend I have ever had on this planet and I am going to show up for her and support her for the rest of my life,” he said in one clip shared on Instagram by a fan.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Will added: ”I just really wanted to come out and just be here and hold it down for you the way you have held it down for me.”

“We have had a very, very long and tumultuous [relationship]. We call it ‘brutiful.’ It was brutal and beautiful at the same time.”

Jada also reportedly said on stage after the separation bombshell: “The truth of the matter is I’m not leaving Will’s side and he’s not going to leave mine.”

The Baltimore Banner reported Will called their romance a “sloppy public experiment in unconditional love”.

Earlier this week, Jada, 52, spoke of the prospect of officially ending her marriage to Will Smith, saying that would feel like “quitting.”

Pinkett Smith joined friend Jay Shetty on his ‘On Purpose’ podcast for an epic two-and-a-half hour episode to discuss her upcoming memoir Worthy, explaining why she and Smith haven’t divorced, despite having been separated for seven years.

”Everybody’s like, ‘Why don’t you just get divorced?’ And it’s like, that’s like quitting,” she told Shetty.

“I don’t think there’s any person that could embrace the best and the worst of me and be able, be willing to hold space in the way that Will holds space for me, and the way that I hold space for him,” Pinkett Smith continued.

“There’s no greater mirror I could have than Will… I can’t get around myself just like he can’t get around himself with me,” she explained.

“Would it be easier to go and find somebody else and have a more ‘pleasing’ more comfortable relationship? Maybe. But would that get me to the person that I really wanna be,” she added.

Pinkett Smith confirmed to Today in the US she and Smith are working to “reconcile” their marriage.

”There’s no finding another great love,” she said. “We are working very hard at bringing our relationship together.”

She continued: “We are in a deep healing space,” adding that there’s “no divorce on paper” and “no divorce in theory.”

Pinkett Smith’s memoir is out now.
