Wilko shoppers rush to buy garden must-have scanning for 60p

WILKO shoppers are rushing to buy a garden must-have scanning at the tills for just 60p.

The collapsed retailer is known for selling homeware and garden items.

Wilko is selling a mini greenhouse for less than £1Alamy

Since its collapse, Wilko stores across the UK have been having clearance sales.

One shopper has found a mini greenhouse for a tiny 60p and posted her find in Facebook’s Extreme Couponing & Bargains group.

Shoppers took to the comments to share their excitement.

One wrote: “So jealous! I’ve been keeping my eye on them but still costly round here.”

While another said: “Wow, bargain.”

The mini greenhouse can be used for growing things like tomatoes or beans.

Its measurements are 50cm by 130cm by 37cm.

It’s always worth shopping around for the best deal.

When we checked, the exact greenhouse was going for £20 on the Wilko website, so it might be worth checking in your local store.

Bear in mind that prices and stock can vary, plus not all Wilko stores are closing down.

In comparison, Argos was selling a similar greenhouse for £30 while Amazon had one for £12.99.

Remember, it’s only a bargain if you were after the item anyway.

The find comes just hours after a last gasp effort by the owner of HMV to save the 93-year-old retailer Wilko has failed.

Doug Putman, a Canadian entrepreneur, was Wilko’s last chance of survival but rising running costs have dashed rescue hopes.

Mr Putman said: “It is with great disappointment that we can no longer continue in the purchase process for Wilko having worked with administrators and suppliers over several weeks to seek a viable way to rescue it as a going concern.”

Administrators at PwC will now talk to rival retailers about bids for parcels of Wilko’s stores.

However, buying Wilko’s stores will not necessarily save jobs as it may be limited to purchasing only the properties.

Wilko collapsed on August 10 after the struggling retailer failed to find new backing for the business.

The company borrowed £40million in 2022 from Hilco as well as cutting jobs and restructuring the leadership of the business.

Wilko’s collapse is a “massive blow” to the retail sector and staff, but some experts say “the clock has been ticking” for a while.
