FLIGHTS in Spain could soon become cheaper, with the Spanish government looking at ways to reduce “excessive” prices.
Flight costs have risen in recent years and don’t look set to become cheaper again any time soon.

However, Spain is hoping to buck that trend by bringing in measures to reduce to cost of flights from the mainland to its islands.
The government is reportedly “studying a pioneering project” in order to bring down prices of trips to and from the Balearic and Canary Islands.
Both islands are holiday hotspots, particularly for Brits, and people flying into the mainland and then taking a connection out again could be in for a cheaper journey.
The project being looked at has been called a “public service obligations pilot project” by Spanish News Today who say it would guarantee “regular air routes at a more reasonable cost”.
Currently, airlines with licences issued by European Union member states can set their own ticket prices on domestic routes.
But governments are also permitted to place price restrictions, known as “public service obligations” if they wish.
This is what Spain are looking to do, to ensure that no one overpays for their flights in the future.
A government spokesperson said: “The feasibility of a possible public service obligations pilot project is being studied to avoid excessive prices in the connections between the islands and the peninsula, to analyse their behaviour and evaluate their results.”
While the government conduct their assessment, there are still ways to get to Spain affordably for the time being.
One Brit was able to fly to Spain and get a pint for less than £15 – which is cheaper than the cost of a box of lager in a UK supermarket.
Callum Ryan, 22, spotted a box of 12 Estrella for £15 in Sainsbury’s, and wondered if he could get a sunnier pint for less.
So he booked a flight from London Stansted to Ibiza Airport with Ryanair, at a cost of just £10.
Once Callum landed in Ibiza he went to Rita’s Cantina for a pint of the same beer, which cost him €4 (£3.49).
Earlier this year he also revealed how he flew to Italy to get a pizza – and it still cost less than a Domino’s even with his flight.
He paid just £8 for a last-minute plane ticket from London Stansted to Milan.
He then headed to a local restaurant, where he paid just €8.50 (£7.50) for a margarita pizza and another €2.50 (£2.22) for service charge.
Meanwhile, this couple booked a day trip to Barcelona and barely spent any money.
And Abbie, from Manchester, told her 19k TikTok followers about her cheap – and fast – trips abroad, including £10 return flights across Europe.
