NEXT time you’re checking in your suitcase, you may end up spotting a cable tie on it.
It could end up delaying your holiday or even fined.
A man was left confused after finding a cable tie on his suitcase after checking it in
A man travelling from Australia to Bali was left baffled after finding the plastic tie on his luggage.
He asked on a Facebook group ” Landed last night and there’s a cable tie on both suitcase handles.
“Anyone know what this means?”
The reason the tags are put on the bags is to often suggest it needs an extra check.
This could be because it has items in it that shouldn’t be in there, such as food or alcohol.
This means you could be waiting longer at baggage claim while it is being checked over again.
It could even lead to you getting fined when they return it to you.
Last year, a woman travelling from Australia to Bali also found the cable tie on her luggage.
She asked in a Facebook group: “Does anyone know what this cable tie on our bags means?
“Arrived last night and one bag took a bit longer and came out with this tag.”
A woman replied saying she ended up being “searched and charged $300 AUD (£177)”.
Aviation security expert Martin Engeler previously explained: “Baggage is screened before they come out of the airport.
“It tells customs to check that bag.”
However, here’s why you should always pack your own cable ties when going on holiday.
And experts have revealed another way that you’ll get extra searches at the airport – this time using your boarding pass to flag.
