Why Kim Cattrall returned to Sex and the City after public vow to never come back

Actress Kim Cattrall announced she would be joining the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That this week after initially refusing over a feud with former co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.

Now, a TV insider has revealed why she decided to make a return as her much-loved character Samantha.

Speaking to The Sun, the insider claimed Parker and Catrall’s “bust up” was “one of the most sensational in showbiz”.

“Both leading ladies [were] involved in a stand-off lasting years” – and Catrall wasn’t invited back to the show.

“But many fans said it just didn’t feel like Sex And The City without the woman who gave the series more sex than any other character,” the source said.

“And Kim will no doubt have realised that this will now be the biggest job of her career – a fact she has probably reconciled herself to.

“So what fans have ended up with is almost guaranteed to delight them, even if it’s an uneasy truce for the actresses themselves.”

Fans were shocked when the news of Cattrall’s return to the Sex and the City franchise was announced earlier this week, in the form of a cameo in season two.

A source told Variety that Cattrall will be appearing in one scene, managing to have shot her dialogue in New York City on March 22 without making contact with the other stars of the show.

Though her character, Samantha Jones, was spoken of in the first season of the reboot, the second season will allow fans to hear her in a phone conversation with Parker‘s Carrie Bradshaw.

Cattrall played a significant role in the two movie spin-offs of the groundbreaking series that ran on HBO for six seasons from 1998 to 2004.
