Why Chelsea pulled the plug on £20m Tyler Adams transfer from Leeds with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia targeted

CHELSEA have reportedly pulled the plug on their pursuit of Tyler Adams amid fitness concerns.

The Blues had been heavily linked with the Leeds United midfielder, but are now assessing other options as he continues to recover from surgery.

Sources close to Adams insist he will be back from injury in four weeks.

But according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have cooled their pursuit of the USA captain.

This comes as medical tests revealed his hamstring injury could keep him out for another four months.

Instead, the Blues are committed to signing key targets Moises Caicedfo for a British record £115m from Brighton, and Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

Adams is regarded as one too many, especially as he will not be fully fit to play immediately.

Caicedo was thought to be signing for Liverpool when the Reds attempted to hijack the midfielder from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

However, Caicedo snubbed Liverpool before declaring that he only wants to join Chelsea.

In fact, the Blues are set to bid again in order to complete a deal with Brighton.

Chelsea are also close to agreeing a £55million deal for Southampton’s Lavia.

Adams still has interest from Brighton, Aston Villa and Manchester United among others.

The USA midfielder has a reported release clause of about 19m that kicks in due to Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.

Adams completed his move to Leeds from RB Leipzig just last season and made 26 appearances for the club.
