Who is West Ham fan Connor Reid?

Connor Reid is a young West Ham fan who had travelled to Prague with his father to watch their Europa Conference League final game.

West Ham played against Fiorentina on Wednesday, June 7 2023, beating them 2-1 to claim the title.

The teams were at a draw heading to the final whistle when a 90th-minute goal by Jarrod Bowen secured the Hammer’s victory.

This is their first major trophy in 43 years and their first European trophy win since 1965.

What happened to Conor Reid?

Connor was at the game with his father and watched all the action unfold in the stadium.

However, while waiting for a taxi after the game, Connor fell off a 5 meter wall.

Connor was rushed to hospital where he had to have surgery to remove his spleen.

He also suffered trauma to his head from his fall and is still unable to return to England as a result.

Connor’s father, Alex, shared an update on his son’s condition not long after his accident.

He said: “He is in bits and very tired. He has no memory of it, the poor sod.

“He remembers the game and everything but the next thing he knew was when he woke up this afternoon in hospital.”

The fact that Connor is awake and talking is a welcomed update after his father tweeted a plea on Twitter.

He tweeted: “So after last nights great performance, my son had a bad fall and is currently in hospital in Prague

“Broken ribs fractured Skull and has his spleen removed. Was due to come home tomorrow but don’t know what we will do now.”

He continued: “He was sitting on a wall waiting for his Uber home not realising there was a 5 Metre drop the other side and lost his balance.”

How can I donate to Connor Reid?

A fundraiser has been started on GoFundMe by Connor’s aunt Georgina.

Well-wishers have smashed the original target of £1000 by a huge margin and the donations keep coming in.

So far the GoFundMe has raised £4,491 to help with accommodation for Connor’s dad and to get them home when he is well enough.
