Who is Sergio Parisse?

Parisse was born on September 12, 1983 in La Plata, capital of the province Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he was also raised.

His family came to La Plate after his father was positioned there for his work with the airline Alitalia in 1970.

Before then Sergio’s father — also named Sergio — played for l’Aquila, with whom he won the Italian club championship in 1967.

Both of Parisse’s parents are from Italy, with the family speaking Italian at home and travelling back to their country of origin for holidays.

Parisse married partner Silvia Bragazzi in 2014, and they have a son together called Leonardo.

In her spare time, Silvia loves to design jewellery made from Venetian glass.

He was previously married to French supermodel Alexandra Rosenfeld, with whom he has a daughter named Ava.

What is Sergio Parisse’s net worth?

Reports of Sergio’s wealth vary dramatically.

At the bottom end of the scale NetWorthPost estimates it to be in the region of $600,000 USD (£474,000).

Whereas at the top end AlmostFamousBirthday predicts his net worth to be around $5million USD (£3.95million).

When did Sergio Parisse retire?

Parisse retired from professional rugby in July 2023.

In his penultimate game for Toulon, the former Italy captain lifted the Challenge Cup, scoring in the final against Glasgow Warriors.

The 40-year-old posted an in-depth message on Instagram about his retirement.

He wrote: “I remember the coach’s first indications: ‘pass the ball back’… yes, run and advance by passing the ball backwards or at most on the same line.

“At the beginning it wasn’t so obvious, but day after day, training after training, it became normal… I stared at the ball as it spun to try to anticipate its direction before it bounced on the ground… so beautiful, what memories!

“… I remember a precise action that triggered something in me that I would carry with me throughout my career: two guys passed the ball running towards the goal area, calm, almost joking, while my teammates watched them from afar without even trying to stop them.

“So I started running desperately to try to tackle them and not let them score and after a long sprint, when I reached the one who had the ball in his hand, I dived to tackle him from behind, getting a cleat on the face… a lot of nosebleeds came out and after that day, and for all the other games I played until I was 39, I told myself that I wanted to be stronger than the others, I wanted to be the one to have the ball in my hand and run to score the try.

“God only knows how many other times I’ve lost in my life and how many more I’ve been hurt, but since that day I haven’t let go of the rugby ball, at home, in the garden, at school…”

And after thanking his father, mother, sister, coaches, teams and various others, he added: “Thanks to my fans: like you there is no one in the world! Your affection and unconditional support have made successes special and disappointments more bearable.

“Thank you my love for coming into my life in my darkest moment, making me discover what love was, supporting me in every single moment and giving me two wonderful children who are our greatest pride!

“And last but not least (as Snoop Dog would say) I would like to thank ME!

“I would like to thank ME for always believing in ME, I would like to thank ME for working harder and harder, making invisible sacrifices for everyone but which made the difference!

“I would like to thank ME for always being consistent and sincere in every single moment of this long and wonderful life as a rugby player.”

What teams did Sergio Parisse play for?

Sergio played junior rugby and his first senior division in his hometown for Club Universitario de La Planta.

He went on to make 265 appearances for the French club, which he left in 2019.

Parisse went on to finish his club career at Toulon, making 65 appearances for the side between 2019 and 2023.

The flanker was first given the captaincy of the Italian national side in 2008 at the age of 24, the same year he became the first Italian player to be nominated for IRB Player of the Year.

By the time he received the honour, he had already made over 50 appearances for his country, having made his Test debut in 2002.

The backrower made 142 international appearances in total following his debut against the All Blacks 22 years ago, making him the fourth-most capped international player of all time, scoring an impressive 83 points for his national team.
