Who is Ashleigh Barty?
Born in Ipswich, Queensland, Ashleigh Barty began playing tennis at the age of four and enjoyed a successful junior career.
She managed to reach a career-high ranking of world no.2 after winning the 2011 Wimbledon girls’ singles title.
As a teenager, Barty had early success in doubles on the WTA Tour in 2013, finishing runner-up at three Grand Slam doubles events with veteran Casey Dellacqua.
Late in the 2014 season, Barty decided to take an indefinite break from tennis.
This led to an interesting switch in sports as she became involved in women’s cricket.
She played for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club, before going on to play for Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League.
Having been ranked outside the top 200 in the world in the women’s singles rankings when she took a break from the sport, Barty returned to tennis in 2016.
She went on to win three Grand Slam titles, including Wimbledon and the Australian Open.
Barty was to shock the world of tennis when she announced her retirement in March 2022, at the time ranked as the world no.1, she said “I don’t have the physical drive, the emotional want and everything it takes to challenge yourself at the very top of the level any more. I am spent.”

Kissick supported Barty in her tennis career, declaring himself her “unofficial ball boy” when attending her training sessions.

After announcing her retirement from the sport in 2022, Barty and Kissick tied the knot that same year.

The pair got engaged the year prior to the wedding and immediately started planning their big day.
