WhatsApp reveals major change that’s perfect for camera shy users

WHATSAPP users who hate going on camera will soon have a way out – and we don’t mean ending the call.

The popular messaging app is adding a special feature for those family members who insist on doing video chats.

Leaked screenshots obtained by WABetaInfo show that WhatsApp is working on video avatar calling.

So instead of showing your head and face it’ll display your 3D animated visual avatar instead.

The feature mimics your movements in real time – including facial expressions.

Aside from allowing you more privacy, it’s also a bit of fun.

For added protection, WhatsApp says calls remain end-to-end encrypted.

The move comes as owner Meta gradually rolls out avatars in its long bid to make the metaverse a thing.

Users can already create a custom avatar for their WhatsApp profile photo.

It can also be used for stickers to send friends and family.

But there’s no telling when the avatar calls will arrive, as it’s only available to early testers at the moment.

There’s always a risk WhatsApp may decide not to launch it at all.

But given the company’s ever-growing focus on avatars and the metaverse it seems unlikely they will abandon the project.

We’ll have to wait and see with future updates.
