Vincent Kompany is best known for his 11 years at Manchester City between 2008 and 2019.

He previously had spells with Anderlecht and German side Hamburg.

Kompany signed for the club in August 2008, just before the club were purchased by Sheikh Mansour.

In his early games at City, Kompany played in defensive midfield, but it was when he moved back into defence that he really excelled.

He was named Premier League player of the season in 2010/11, as he helped Manchester City qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.

City also won the FA Cup this season, their first trophy for 35 years with a 1-0 win against Stoke at Wembley.

Kompany was named City captain ahead of the 2011/12 season ,which proved to be an outstanding one for the club.

City repeated this success in 2013/14, beating Liverpool to the post by two points.

Kompany’s last season at the club brought perhaps his most iconic moment.

Drawing 0-0 against Leicester in May 2019, and needing a win to stay top of the league, Kompany unleashed a ferocious shot from outside the box that nestled in the top corner.

Man City won the game 1-0, and sealed their second consecutive Premier League title, finishing one point ahead of Liverpool.

They became the first team to complete the domestic treble in England, winning the League cup on penalties against Chelsea and the FA Cup against Watford, winning 6-0 in a record score line for the competitions’ final.

Kompany left at the end of that season following the expiry of his contract.

He made a total of 360 appearances for Man City, scoring 20 goals and winning 10 major honours.
