Every year the life and work of poet Robert Burns is celebrated around the globe on January 25 – the day of his birth.
Wetherspoons celebrates by putting on its own special menu every year.
Luckily for punters the chain is takes it up a notch and offering the menu all week from Monday 22 to Sunday 28.
It means punters at pubs in England, Wales and Scotland can try traditional food and drinks.
The chain is introducing two meals – Scottish haggis with neeps and tatties, as well as the Caledonian burger.
The burger is made up of two 3oz beef patties, with haggis and whisky sauce, and is served with chips and six beer-battered onion rings.
The haggis meal will cost from £7.50 with a choice of soft drink and from £8.97 with a choice of an alcoholic drink.
There’s also a small Scottish haggis with neeps and tatties meal from £5.81 with a soft drink and from £7.28 with a choice of an alcoholic drink.
The Caledonian Burger meal will cost from £9.64 with a choice of soft drink and from £11.11 with a choice of an alcoholic drink.
It’s important to note though that prices do vary from pub to pub.
The Wetherspoons food menu for Burns Week has been unchanged for the past four years.
Prices have changed slightly from last year when the haggis meal cost from £6.65 with a soft drink and £7.95 with an alcoholic one.
A small haggis dish cost £5.15 and £6.45 if you wanted booze with your meal.
The Caledonian Burger cost £8.55 last year with a soft drink, or h£9.85 with an alcoholic one.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Wetherspoons night out without some booze.
Among the choices for the Burns’ Week meal deals is a range of Scottish drinks for customers to enjoy.
On offer is Cairngorm Nessie’s Monster Mash (4.1% ABV), which is described as a predominantly malty, lightly hopped beer.
It’s being served especially for the event, as well as Scottish gins, whiskies and beer.
These include two Scottish single-malt whiskies, Glenfiddich and Glenmorangie, as well as The Famous Grouse and Bell’s whisky.
BrewDog Elvis Juice and Hazy Jane craft beers are also an option.
That’s on top of Hendrick’s Gin and Edinburgh Gin Rhubarb and Ginger liqueur.
Customers taking part in Dry January can also try BrewDog’s Punk AF (0.5% ABV) – a low-alcohol beer from the Ellon-based brewery.
Wetherspoon’s marketing executive, James Vaughan, said: “Our Burns’ week event is a great opportunity for customers to sample some traditional Scottish food and drinks and to celebrate for longer than just the evening of January 25 itself.”
It’s not the only promotion Wetherspoons is offering customers this month either.
The pub chain has slashed the price of its food and drink at more than 800 boozers in January.
The price change is part of Wetherspoon’s January sale, which will see the price of a pint fall below £2.
Discounts will vary as pubs price their drinks differently.
Venues in England, Scotland and Wales will see the change until January 17 this year.
The average sale prices across all of its pubs include a pint of Bud Light at £1.99, a pint of Doom Bar at £1.99 and classic cocktails at £2.99.
Classic cocktails include espresso martinis, strawberry daiquiris and margaritas.
For those who are alcohol-free, a Pepsi Max (14oz) will be priced at £1.49, while Lavazza coffee, tea and hot chocolate – with free refills- can be bought for £1.29.
Customers will be able to get reduced prices on a range of spirits too, including AU vodka and Sidemen XIX Vodka.
If you’re planning on visiting your nearest Spoons, be sure to double-check the price before you order as they will vary from branch to branch.
The pub chain is also serving vegan burgers this January until the end of the month.
As part of Veganuary, Spoons fans will be able to sample the new Beyond BBQ stack, which is a plant-based burger.
Spoons also tends to host events throughout the year when fans can grab their favourite drinks and meals for less.
Wetherspoons often publicise these events on their website, so be sure to check there in case one is coming near you soon.
You may also find leaflets with deals and events in your local boozer.
As well as its autumn festival, Wetherspoons also holds a 12-day Real Ale Festival every spring.
It usually begins in the final week of March and ends at the beginning of April.
Every year, Spoons holds its Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry.
It usually takes place in September, and in 2023 it fell on September 14.
Wetherspoons is known for its meal deal offers that run all week long.
These include Tuesday’s Steak Club, the Thursday Curry Club and Fish Friday.
For example, a standard curry club meal with an alcoholic drink is between £8.55 and £9.19.
Outside of the deal, you would expect to pay around a fiver more for the same meal.
You can see where your nearest Spoons is by using the chain’s pub searching tool on its website.
