We’re Icelanders and these are our tips for an ice-free windscreen in winter – if they work for us, they’ll work for you

ICELANDERS have shared tips for keeping your windscreen ice-free this winter.

With temperatures dropping, Brits will have to de-ice their windscreens more often before heading to work.

Car experts from Iceland, Lotus Car Rental, have offered a list of tips that Icelanders have used for years to defrost their car windscreens.

The most simple tip is to park your car in the right place because the sun rises in the east and will melt it for you.

Spraying your windscreen with a solution of water and vinegar every night before going to bed can help too.

If you don’t have vinegar, you can rub onion in your windscreen.

Cut one in half and then rub it generously all over the windows and windscreen the night before.

If drivers do not have the option to park their cars inside, they can use an old or spare bed sheet to help.

Putting a bed sheet over the windscreen during the night is an effective way to shield it from the ice.

However, if you have forgotten to do any of these tips and you need a quick solution, turn your front and rear demister on max and then the ice will start to melt.

After that, you can then wipe away any excess water with your wipers.

If you are in a rush, you can always resort to an ice scraper, but it is vital to use this rather than a credit card as they can scratch the windscreen.

Car experts also recommend using de-icing fluid, which speeds up the ice-scrapping process and it can be bought at most supermarkets and petrol stations.

Spraying your windscreen with vodka will eliminate the ice on your windscreen in a few seconds too.
