A CHIPPY is laying a new claim to being Britain’s cheapest — by serving a small cod and chips for just £4.30.
The price is less than half the £9 national average for the popular meal.

The Jolly Fryer in Boston, Lincs, is claiming the crown two weeks after The Sun told how Olde England Fisheries in Huddersfield was serving small fish and chips for £4.80.
Nicola Hunt, who runs the shop with husband Duncan, 63, said: “We’re proud to be keeping our prices down.
“Our hope is that customers remember that and stand by us.
“This is a working-class, low-income area, with a lot of agricultural work.
“To make any kind of money we’d probably be looking to sell a small cod and chips for at least five pounds, but some would struggle to afford that.
“Last time we raised prices we lost customers — and that would happen again.”
On average, chip shop meals have soared by 19 per cent in the last year — equal to £1.44, according to national figures.
Nicola added: “Our profit margin is about 30p per portion.
“Our energy bills are getting on for £1,500 a month. Everything’s going up.
“All our packaging now has to be biodegradable — which is more expensive.
“Fish went up because of the war in Ukraine, and the price of fat and dripping doubled.
“But we just can’t pass those increases on to the customer.”
Andrew Crook of the National Federation of Fish Fryers said: “We’re doing our best to cushion customers from prices that have in some cases doubled.”
