The 24-year-old winger was put through on goal during the first half with the deadlock yet to be broken.
With only goalkeeper Jacob Chapman to beat, the former non-league ace dinked the ball over the Terriers stopper and had the goal at his mercy.
However, just as Jones looked certain to fire home into the empty net, he amazingly produced an air-kick instead and embarrassingly stumbled, allowing Huddersfield to scramble the ball to safety.
The speedster, who has been linked with Manchester United in the past and Crystal Palace more recently, instantly dropped his head at the mishap and appeared to be in total disbelief that he had not managed to grab his sixth goal of the season.
And after the footage went viral on social media, fans were equally in shock as they mocked one of Michael Carrick’s key men.
“Isaiah Jones with a contender for miss of the season for Boro tonight,” responded one troll.
Another asked: “What did my eyes even witness?”
A third said: “How has he not scored that. That’s absolutely shocking.”

“That has to be the worst miss in any game at any level (including kids football) that I have ever seen,” commented a fellow fan.
A fifth wrote: “The worst miss I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”
While another added: “I’m still in utter awe at that Isaiah Jones miss??? And I’ve seen some sights following Sunderland.”
Fortunately for Jones his blushes were spared as second half goals from Josh Coburn and Jonny Howson secured the points for Boro to move them ninth in the table and just three points outside of the play-offs.
