WATCH: Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake appear to have heated exchange backstage at the 2023 MTV VMAs

From Shakira performing with knives to Taylor Swift sweeping the awards, the 2023 MTV VMAs weren’t dull to say the least. Now backstage footage of two megastars in a seemingly heated argument has spiced things up even more.

In a now viral video, Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake were seen to have what appeared to be a tense exchange backstage at the VMAs on Wednesday.

In the clip, the Hot Girl Summer singer was having her hair fixed when Timberlake and his NSYNC bandmates – who reunited onstage at the awards show – walked past.

Timberlake appeared to lean in to say something to the rapper who then pointed her finger at the bandmates, appearing to speak angrily.

The Mirrors singer and his bandmate Joey Fatone both laughed in response and continued to make their way backstage.

While the exchange appeared to be heated on Megan’s end, Variety reports that an insider source says otherwise.

According to the source, there was “zero fight” between the two singers and instead they had a “very cute” interaction.

“He said, ‘It’s so nice to meet you,’ and she said ‘No, no this don’t count, this don’t count. We gotta meet proper’,” the source added.

“It was their first time meeting and she was excited,” a second eyewitness source told Variety.

It seems like its all love between Megan and Timberlake, who had a big night at the 2023 MTV VMAs, reuniting with his band onstage for the first time in ten years.

NSYNC, which consists of members Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, and Joey Fatone presented Taylor Swift with her first award of the night for Best Pop.

Swift, who has previously spoken about her love for Timberlake, couldn’t contain her excitement when the ’90s band handed her the trophy – and some friendship bracelets thanks to Bass.

“I had your dolls. Like, are you doing something? What is going to happen now?” Swift asked the group, voicing everyone’s thoughts if this meant the band would reunite for more than just a quick tv appearance.

“They’re going to do something, and I need to know what it is,” she said.

Taylor cleaned up big at this year’s VMAs, taking home a staggering nine awards, including the biggest honour of Artist of the Year.
