The video is shot from the dashcam of a red car in Stonehaven, Scotland.

As the driver rounds a bend on a busy and wet main road, a black SUV pulls into the turning lane just up ahead.

Instead of waiting for the red car to come past, as it is travelling at high speed, the driver of the SUV tries to make their turn quickly, placing them squarely in the other vehicle’s path.

A shout of surprise and horror can be heard from the driver of the red car, as both then quickly swerve to avoid one another.

The red car initially moves to the right to avoid a smash, but the SUV has the same idea and swerves back into its path in a moment of miscommunication.

This means that the two motors only just avoid devastating contact.

Social media commentators couldn’t decide who was at fault.

Many supported the driver of the red car as they were the one travelling in a straight line.

One wrote: “Turning driver misses car by inches – but people are divided on who to blame.”

Another asked: “How are people still blaming the cam car?”

However, others leapt to the defence of the SUV driver.

One critic wrote: “You were obviously in the blind spot behind the truck, he saw you too late than panicked.”

Yet another chimed in: “Loads of time to react and instead swerved dangerously and almost hits.”

The Highway Code states that when turning to the right, you should always give way to oncoming traffic as they have priority.
