Warning for billions of Apple fans as popular service quietly increases in price – find out if you’re affected

APPLE has quietly hiked its iCloud prices in the UK and eight other countries, leaving customers in uproar.

Prices have risen by nearly a third for Brits using the cloud storage service, which was once one of the cheapest on the market.

Most customers say the price hike is steep considering the cost of data storage has grown considerably cheaper in 15 years since iCloud’s inceptionRafael Henrique/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images

iCloud, introduced in 2006, is an Apple service that gives iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners extra storage for photos, files and backups.

While the tech giant offers users 5GB of storage on the house, this doesn’t go very far.

So, many users opt to pay for Apple’s premium cloud subscription, iCloud+.

But a number of iCloud+ plans jumped in price this week, and users aren’t happy with it.

Here’s what’s changed for Brits:

50GB: Was £0.79, now £0.99200GB: Was £2.49, now £2.992TB: Was £6.99, now £8.99

iPhone users in eight other countries have also been hit with price increases, according to 9to5Mac, such as Poland, Romania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

Prices have risen about 28 per cent for Brits, which most customers say is steep considering there have been no upgrades to the service and the cost of data storage has grown considerably cheaper in 15 years since its inception.

Nonetheless, some Brits are counting themselves lucky.

In Turkey, prices have risen by 100 per cent.

Some unhappy customers have compared the new prices to that of an additional subscription like Netflix.

Others have accused the tech behemoth of “greediness” and unnecessary profiteering.

“My iCloud is gonna cost me £8.99 starting end of next month! Bruh that’s basically Netflix prices,” one customer wrote on Twitter.

Another wrote: “This is pure profiteering and cannot be justified in anyway, esp with storage costs coming down in price.”

“Apple you thieves,” tweeted a third person.

“Another subscription price increase. What am I even doing with all my iCloud storage.”
