And it now means that Warren Gatland‘s team can still progress even if they draw or lose one of their remaining two games after consecutive wins against Fifi and Portugal.

But the Wales boss is not taking anything for granted and has confirmed that the “stakes are high” for this match.

Gatland said: “Every game in the World Cup is tough, the stakes are high, and this will be no different. Australia have talented players and we know they will want to come out and put in a performance.

“I was surprised by their tactics against Fiji. Their ball-in-play time was 27 minutes compared to our 38.

“They’ve also lost a couple of key forwards so that will change the way the approach the game so we’ve prepared for a few scenarios.

“Our accuracy was good against Fiji, but it was not at the level we would like against Portugal. Against Australia, we know we have to take our chances and put them under as much pressure as possible.”
