Swansway Motor GroupExperts say that using a plunger to fix the bodywork can have ‘unintended consequences’ that could put you at risk and cost thousands to address[/caption]
The specialists, based in Crewe, Cheshire, said that the method of using a plunger to pull the bodywork back into place could lead to “unintended consequences”.
They explained: “One of the major issues with using a plunger is that it may cause further damage to the paint and the underlying structure of the car.
“The force exerted by the plunger can result in paint chipping and even cracking, leading to additional repair costs.”
Not only that, but it can lead to structural weaknesses which could reduce the safety of your motor in an accident.
While it might seem to be a great money-saver it is actually a “gamble” that could see you paying higher maintenance bills later on, Swansway’s technicians explained.
Instead, they recommended seeking advice from a specialist body shop, whose employees have the necessary tools, training and experience to do the job properly.
According to CheckATrade, the average price for dent removal is between £220 and £450 per panel, though a dented bumper can cost up to £810 to fix.
Nonetheless, this is small change compared to the over £1,000 you could have to shell out to repair structural damage, according to Car Cosmetics.
Mark Trevers, who manages Swansway’s Accident Repair Centre, said: “In the long run, the ‘quick fix’ of using a plunger can turn into a costly mistake.
“It’s essential to prioritise the safety and integrity of your car by entrusting dent removal to experts who can address the issue correctly, ensuring the long-term value and functionality of your vehicle.”
