‘Very grateful’: Young and the Restless star shares health update

The Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden has given an emotional update on his health.

The star, 83, was diagnosed with cancer last year. He informed fans of the news in a 13 minute live Facebook video last April in the hopes of raising awareness for other men.

“I hate to be this personal, but I think this may be good for some older guys who may or may not listen to this,” he said at the time.

Four months later, Braeden expressed in a happy update that he was “cancer-free” after undergoing a cystoscopy.

Now, the good news continues, as the actor confirms he remains cancer-free.

“My cancer diagnosis right now is on hold, as it were, and [I’m very] grateful from very good doctors and very good modern cancer treatment which has improved enormously,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

“People shouldn’t be afraid of it, you know. Just go and have your cystoscopy, have your colonoscopy, have your heart checked out. Do all that, do it in time.”

Continuing the interview, Entertainment Tonight’s Cassie DiLaura asked the star how the cancer-free news made him feel.

He sighed in response.

“You know, it’s funny I don’t react immediately to things, I react afterwards,” he revealed.

“On the way home I thought, keep on looking at it step by step. That’s good advice for anything you do in life.

“Don’t anticipate the result, don’t think way ahead. No, take it step by step.”

Of the support he has received from his Young and the Restless co-stars and his fans during the highs and lows of his health journey, Braeden said it “means everything.”

“People have been awfully kind, fans have been very kind. Yeah, it means a lot.”

Reflecting on this support, the actor became teary-eyed.

“Sometimes when you get to my age you sometimes think about, you know, you reflect on your life,” he shared.

“It’s been hard and wonderful in many ways.”
