Abigayle Andre, who runs motors advice channel She Talks Cars, took to TikTok to urge road users to avoid the costly gaffe.

In one video, she fumed at people driving at night without their headlamps switched on.

Abigayle said: “There’s something we need to address drivers, those who drive at night because I’ve seen too many drivers doing this.

“Not only is it against the law, it’s extremely dangerous.

“They don’t put their lights on, or they’re not properly working. Do you understand how dangerous that is?”

Indeed, because it is so dangerous, the Highway Code treats it as a serious offence and imposes a severe penalty, especially as official figures show that nearly half of car accidents occur in the dark.

Driving without your lights on could see you collared for driving without due care and attention.

Ths comes with a £100 fine and three penalty points on your licence.

However, in serious cases you may be prosecuted and receive a £5,000 fine and up to nine points, three quarters of the number needed to trigger a driving ban.

Most modern cars have automatic headlights which switch on when sensors around the windshield register that the light has dropped below a certain level.

However, this can be turned on and off, while older cars often don’t have this feature.

Make sure your automatic lights are still on each time you have a service and check that they are still functioning regularly.

If your lights break or experience a fault, drive to the nearest mechanic in the daytime and get them fixed or replaced as soon as possible.

It comes after a veteran car salesman warned drivers about nine words that should send them running out of a dealership.

Meanwhile, an EV owner listed the five worst things about his car, saying he hates it.
