Universal Studios to ‘open huge 500 acre theme park in the UK’ – right next to a much-loved attraction

A BRAND new Universal Studios theme park could be set to launch in the UK, with fans online getting excited about the possibility.

The rumours surfaced after Universal‘s owners Comcast and NBC appeared to have registered the domain names UniversalStudiosGreatBritain.com and UniversalGreatBritain.com.

The domains were registered in September this year, as can be seen here.

Meanwhile, reports also claim that around 500 acres of land in Bedford has also been purchased by Comcast.

The company’s latest quarterly financial report from September revealed that $271million (£214m) had been spent “associated with the acquisition of land for potential theme park expansion”.

Coincidentally, Comcast also took a controlling stake in a construction and development company, Cloud Wing UK Limited this year.

Cloud Wing are reportedly the owners of a huge brownfield site in Kempston Hardwick, Bedfordshire, known as the Brickworks.

The location would put the new theme park less than half an hour away from Gulliver’s Land theme park and less than an hour from Warner Brothers Studios in Watford.

Theme park fans online have put pieces of the puzzle together and are starting to get excited about the prospect.

Included in those are theme park bloggers Orlando Park Stop who claimed that Universal has “expressed a desire to branch out and bring new theme parks and themed experiences to new locations around the world”.

They added: “In total, it seems as though the company has acquired around 500 acres (or 200 hectares) of total land in Bedford, England.

“This site in Bedford, which we believe is where Comcast will be building their new Universal Studios Great Britain, is about 46 miles north of London.”

Adding further fuel to the fire is an unverified concept mock up picture that has emerged on X, formerly Twitter.

One theme park news account called The Main Street shared the picture and said they believed it to be from “an internal presentation about new ventures”.

The rumours sparked excitement among thrill seekers.

One commented on X: “My God I hope it’s true.”

Another said: “If this ends up coming through as described it’s going to be an incredible theme park experience for Britain.”

A third added: “I so hope this is true.”

Others looked closer at the mock up picture to try and get an idea of what may be coming should the park be built.

One thought they had seen a quidditch arena, while others said they wanted Jurassic World themed rides.

Sun Online Travel has contacted Universal Studios for comment.

Meanwhile, this was the UK’s best theme park in 2023.

And this theme park has announced that it’s going to get a new ride for 2024.
