UK TV star has extreme method for reserving sun loungers and slams hotels for sparking sunbed wars

A UK TV star has revealed an extreme method that one of her friends uses to reserve hotel sun loungers, after slamming hotels for making sun lounger wars much worse.

Every summer, people are seen battling it out early in the morning to get to the sunbeds before anyone else.

However, presenter Vanessa Feltz believes that hotels are intentionally making things worse and said she knows people who have gone to great lengths to reserve their lounger by the pool.

She also believes resorts should provide one bed per person staying at the resort to make things fairer.

On This Morning, she said: “If you’re going on a holiday which basically consists of sitting around the pool or sitting on the beach near your hotel, which most people do, you’ve got to have a sunbed.

“What are you meant to do? Stand up all day or sit on your suitcase? What the hell?

“The hotels are ramping it up and making it a million times worse.

“Surely there should be something in the trades descriptions or whatever saying that if we’ve got 300 people at this hotel, we have to have 300 sunbeds.

“Otherwise it’s not fair because you’re exempting people from the whole thing.”

Vanessa said that one of her friends resorted to padlocking two sunbeds to a tree, just to make sure they had somewhere to sunbathe while one their holiday.

While she said she would never do that, she felt it was the resorts’ fault for not providing enough beds.

She continued: “I know somebody who bought one of those padlocks that you lock your bike up with and took two sunbeds and padlocked them to a tree.

“I actually know the person. It’s actually true. I’m absolutely not doing this.”

Other people agreed with Vanessa, saying that it’s up to the resorts to provide enough loungers to prevent the morning battles.

Reacting to the video on the This morning Tiktok (@thismorning), one said: “Why don’t they allocate a bed to each guest which is yours for all your holiday providing they have enough beds.”

Another wrote: “I agree, one sunbed per person.”

A third added: “They should be allocated to your room number. She’s 100% right! It’s the worst part of going abroad!”

For those who don’t want to rush to get their sunbed, there are moments in the day when it’s easier to get one.

Travel journalist Jacob Passy has urged people to wait for a “moment of transition” when people start to leave the beds unattended.

He recommends holidaymakers have a lie in instead of getting up early to get their towel down and then waiting for others to head for lunch.

He wrote in the Wall Street Journal: “If you can’t be among the first to the pool, look for moments of transition, like just before lunch or dinner, to grab a lounge chair.”

Jacob’s advice came from a recent cruise he went on, where sunbed hogging is apparently as popular as it is at resorts.

However, he used the mornings to enjoy activities, or get in shape before he sunbathed, something people could easily do at all-inclusive resorts.

He added: “Busy yourself with other activities, like playing the daily bingo games or hitting the gym, when the crowds are sunbathing.”

Meanwhile, Staff at a hotel in Tenerife were caught removing towels after cheeky tourists had dumped them and left.

And a mum was left fuming on her holiday in France by “ignorant and selfish” Brits who were reserving sun loungers at the campsite she was staying.
