UK areas with the WORST drivers revealed… is your county top of the list?

THE UK areas with the worst drivers has been revealed – but is your county top of the list?

A poll of 2,000 motorists saw more than half across the country admit that they do not consider themselves “good” behind the wheel.

The UK areas with the worst drivers have been revealed

The study by CarMats.co.uk found that 52% of people aren’t confident in their skills.

Given that there are an estimated 35 million drivers in the UK, this works out to 18 million road users, with just 17 million considering themselves up to scratch.

Breaking down the figures revealed a gender divide, with 62% of blokes saying they are comfortable in their motors, compared to just 41% of women.

A significant regional difference was also revealed by the survey,

The East of England came out as the worst area for driver confidence, with 60% considering themselves sub-part.

One respondent, Paula Williams, from Norwich, Norfolk, recalled failing her driving test six times before eventually getting a licence.

She said: “My first test I failed on a minor technicality and that put me off for a while.

“I gave it two years and tried again, and failed, and again – six times in fact, before I finally passed my test last year.

“Despite my driving test failures I think it’s made me a better driver – I’m careful and know all the road signs, so I think I’m a good driver, although my husband would disagree, obviously.”

The top three was then rounded out by Wales and the East Midlands, both on 57%.

At the other end of the table, West Midlands drivers held themselves in high regard, with just 42% unsure of their abilities.

Another tie followed, with Scotland and Yorkshire & Humber both on 48%.

A spokesperson for CarMats.co.uk said: “Our study found that men thought they were the best drivers.

“Those from the West Midlands viewed themselves as the best drivers, while 60% of those from the East of England did not rate themselves behind the wheel.”

It comes after the UK’s most haunted road was revealed, boasting a ghostly horseman and cars with no drivers.

Meanwhile, a vintage Fiat belonging to McLaren racer Lando Norris has gone up for sale for just £28,000.
