Costa, 32, revealed via social media on Monday that the op on the infected bursa, which acts as a cushion between the tendon and bone, was a success.

He posted a selection of photos with three of them showing where the grisly infection was on his right elbow.

The Instagram post was captioned: “How strong are u? U never really know until you get tested by the fire of life.

“I did surgery 3 weeks ago, 10 seams size. But I know how tough I am and will continue improving and overcoming myself.

“It doesn’t stop me, I am still doing my sparrings and everything. I’m so blessed and God gives me exceptional condition, and I am surrounded by my by great people .”

The middleweight clash between Costa and formal title challenger Chimaev has been hyped as one of the biggest bouts this year.

The Brazilian confirmed to ESPN via text he did everything he could to ensure he would still make the fight later this month.

Costa said: “I will not pull out of this fight. I can beat him 99 out of 100 times. Only if the doctor doesn’t allow me. I want that fight.”

Borrachinha’s MMA fighting record is pretty strong with 14 wins and only two losses.

His last win was by decision over former champion Luke Rockhold in August 2022.

Meanwhile, opponent Chimaev is undefeated with 12 wins in his professional career.

He has not fought since missing weight for a scheduled bout against welterweight Nate Diaz last September.

Instead he fought Kevin Holland in a 180-pound catchweight bout.

But the Russian wrecking machine made headlines earlier this year after undergoing a major body transformation.

Chimaev is now boasting a fuller physique and has left the welterweight division ahead of his middleweight debut.

Costa and Chimaev’s fight will take place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on October 21st.
