Only now has Murphy shown just how bad the accident was, leaving his head gruesomely cut open and pouring with blood.
The unbeaten contender thankfully made a full recovery and returned to the octagon in March, beating Gabriel Santos.
Murphy, 31, reflected on the incident and his comeback on Instagram, where he revealed his gory head gash.
He wrote: “1 year ago today. This accident made me realise A LOT. The things I took for granted & also who’s who in my life.
“Real situations reveal all. Ain’t it crazy how the brain works. Success ain’t nothing with no the pain first.
“Within under a year I was able to pick myself up, dust my self off, rebuild and then go on to compete at highest level again.
“I never need motivating by anyone because I know my purpose! Blessed & thankful for everyday.”
At the time of the accident, Murphy admitted he was fearing the worst.
He posted: “The ambulance took 45 minutes to arrive which nearly caused me to bleed out. I’m here still breathing for a greater purpose clearly.”
At the time of the crash, Murphy had a record of 11 wins and one draw but he returned to victory at UFC 286 in a points win.
He now wants to fight countryman Nathaniel Wood, 29, after their initial bout in London was scrapped due to injury.
