A TRAVEL expert has revealed the armrest hack that she swears by when travelling on planes or trains, that she learnt about on social media.
Getting to sleep on public transport is never easy, with plane cabins an especially difficult place to get comfortable.

However, travel show host Samantha Brown showed how passengers can turn the armrest into a make shift headrest, which she insists can “create a more comfy space”.
In a video she shared on her Instagram (@samanthabrowntravels) she asked her followers for tips they’d learnt about online.
She got the ball rolling by sharing the first travel hack she’d ever picked up from other social media users.
She titled the video “Anyone else like to share?” and said: “What’s a travel hack you first learned on social media and thought, ‘How did I not know that?’
“I’ll go first.
“You can raise the armrest on planes and trains to create a more comfy space to rest your head.”
However, Samantha warned that passengers shouldn’t do this when sat next to strangers.
She added: “Please only do this when you know your seatmate.”
People were impressed with Samantha’s makeshift headrest, with one simply commenting: “That’s a great hack!”
In addition to the armrest tip, others shared similar tricks for armrests, including one for the aisle seat on planes.
One user explained how it can be lifted up to make getting out the aisle seat easier, with others saying they never knew about it.
They wrote: “You can raise the armrest on the aisle seat so you can get out easily, but the button is actually in the back of the arm rest!”
Another person replied: “This is embarrassing but I didn’t know that the aisle seat armrest has a button to push to raise the arm.
“So many leg bruises getting up and down on a long flight.”
Other people pointed out another method for passengers to get a little bit more comfortable during flights.
Either side of the headrests can often be bent forwards, to support people while they lean their heads on either side.
They wrote: “The ends of headrests on some airlines can be bent so you can actually rest your head on them.
“I never see people using them, so I think it’s just not known.”
Samantha’s Instagram is full of useful tips and tricks for travellers, including a very strange one she uses to make sure she never leaves things in the safe in her room.
She revealed that she always leaves one of her shoes in the safe, saying that it’s an item she will never forget to take out of the safe, especially if it’s from the pair of shoes she intends to travel in.
She said: “You will check out of the hotel and go to the airport without your passport, your wallet, all of your credit cards, money, your laptop, but you will not forget to put on your travel shoes.”
Meanwhile, this is why you should never ask if people speak English on holiday.
And these are the hotel hacks that Samantha Brown always swears by.
