Top UK tourist attraction shares ULEZ loophole – here’s how you can avoid paying fee

ONE of the UK’s top tourist attractions is offering advice on how to avoid ULEZ – as it sits right on the boundary.

ULEZ has expanded to all 32 London Boroughs

But those who turn left out Henry VIII’s former gaff do not get caught by the £12.50 charge.

The West London attraction, which draws around one million visitors each year, has now revealed a ULEZ loophole as part of guidance to punters.

In a tweet by Historic Royal Palaces who run the venue, they warned: “Hampton Court Palace and its car park are within ULEZ.

“However if you are driving from outside of London into our car park and back out again you will not be seen by the enforcement camera an will not be charged – provided you don’t re-enter the zone.”

Private roads within the grounds and the car park itself are not subject to ULEZ enforcement.

From Tuesday, any vehicle which does not comply with ULEZ standards is now smacked with a daily £12.50 charge.

As a general rule, most petrol cars made before 2006 and Diesel cars produced before 2015 will have to pay the ULEZ charge.

Other key London attractions now sit inside the charge zone – including Wembley, Twickenham and Wimbledon.

So far most of the 2,750 ULEZ cameras have been installed, despite hundreds being damaged by vigilante groups.

Transport for London (TfL) said vandalism was “unacceptable” and “all incidents are reported to the police for investigation”.

However the Met Police’s press office said it was not aware of any specific offences.

The rollout to all 32 London Boroughs triggered furious protest outside Downing Street on Tuesday – with one man thrown to the floor by cops.

It comes as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called out Sadiq Khan for imposing the hated tax grab.

Asked if he understood their anger, Mr Sunak told GB News: “I do understand the frustration.

“And I think that the Mayor and Keir Starmer and the Labour Party should explain to people why they think the right priority, at a time when people are struggling with the cost of living…

“Is to impose a charge of £12.50 every time they drive into London to see a GP, to the shopping or take their kids to school.”

Ulez is expected to cost taxpayers £140 million.
