With the surging costs of alcohol in the UK, those with a tighter budget will find more for their money across the continent.

However, there are also places to be wary of if you are looking to avoid coming across the eyewatering prices of a pint that you’d find back home.

But the latest findings from online database Numbeo have provided drinkers with the cheapest places to enjoy a refreshing beer.

And it’s been revealed that the cheapest of the lot can be found in the city of Debrecen in Hungary.

The nation’s second largest city after its capital, Budapest, will provide you with a pint that costs just 92p.

That’s cheaper than a bottle of water here in the UK and six times less than the eyewatering £6.08 London average.

If that doesn’t take your fancy, then you can always travel to Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, where a pint will cost you £1.13.

Back to Hungary, and you’ll find that a beer costs slightly more at £1.15 in Szeged, often referred to as “the city of sunshine”.

Europe’s fourth cheapest pint is in Szczecin, Poland, where it will cost you £1.18, while partygoers will pay £1.22 in Presov, Slovakia.

Next up is Burgas in Bulgaria, which offers beer at £1.30, just two pence more than Targu Mures in Romania, which comes in at £1.32.

The next two cheapest pints can both be found in Bosnia & Herzegovina, with Banja Luka and Mostar offering beer at £1.33.

The tenth cheapest pint in Europe then goes to Sibiu in Romania, at £1.41.

On the flip side, however, here are some of the places you must avoid at all costs if you want a cheap pint.

Numbeo claim that the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik will charge you an extortionate £8.21 for a pint of your favourite beer.

Those looking for a good time must also avoid Bergen and Stavanger in Norway, which charge £8.09 and £7.75, respectively.

Espoo in Finland will also look to rinse you of £7.65 every time you order a beer.

Norway has to be at the top of your list to avoid buying a drink, with two more places in Trondheim and Oslo, the capital, asking for £7.38 and £7.35 each.

The final four most expensive pints in Europe all come from Switzerland.

Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich are offering their pints out at £7.24, while Basel is marginally cheaper at £7.23.

One woman with a keen eye for the cheapest beers in Europe even took a tour of the continent to test them out for herself.

She advised revellers on where to head for the best value – with Eastern Europe rising to the top of the list once more.
