Toni Collette shares cryptic Valentine’s Day messages hinting at split from Dave Galafassi

Toni Collette had a cryptic Valentine’s Day message that seemed to hint at what she really thinks about ex-husband Dave Galafassi.

The Aussie actress, 51, took to her Instagram story to share several posts – including one about naming a cockroach after your ex thanks to a Texas Zoo initiative.

“Zoo lets you name a cockroach after your ex and feed it to an animal on Valentine’s Day,” the post, which Collette re-shared to her story, read.

The San Antonio Zoo has launched their ‘Cry Me a Cockroach’ fundraiser where visitors can name a cockroach, veggie or rat after an ex and then have it fed to animals.

According to the Zoo’s website, participants can donate $U5 (approx. $7.70) to name a vegetable, $U10 ($15.40) for a cockroach, and a more substantial U$25 ($38.50) for a rodent.

Collette’s post seemed to take a swipe at her ex-husband Galafassi. The couple announced they were divorcing in 2022 after 19 years of marriage and two children together.

After Collette’s Valentine’s Day jab, the actress also had a pointed message about self-love that she shared with her 188,000 Instagram followers.

The Muriel’s Wedding star shared a piece of poetry from the account Moon Omens which praised loving oneself first.

“The real love story was always you and you,” the motivational post began.

“It was how you walked alone and learned what you needed to carry. It was how you began to see through your own eyes, and not someone else’s,” it continued.

“It was how you began to dig joy out from beneath your cynicism, how you slowly built your desires to form. It was how you learned what you like and don’t, and what you came here to be.”

“The real love story was always how you opened your heart to yourself.”

This isn’t the first time the Knives Out actress has shared a cryptic poem following her split from her ex-husband.

In 2023, Collette shared a poem by US poet and mental health advocate Tonya Ingram about the experience of ‘hurt’.

“You owe it to yourself to quit being the apology,” the poem began. “To hold your hand and sing your favourite song. to love another and see how far that will go.”

The Aussie actress first announced her divorce from Gelbison drummer Dave Galafassi in December 2022 in a joint statement after nearly two decades of marriage since 2003.

In the statement, the couple said their two children – daughter Sage and son Arlo – were of “paramount importance.”

“It is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing,” the statement read.

“We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other.”

“Our kids are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape.”
