SPAIN is home to plenty of popular holiday destinations, but some places have certainly flown under the radar.
Every year, millions of Brits head to Spain for their holidays, but most stick to well-known places like Madrid, Barcelona, Tenerife and Lanzarote.

One place Brit holidaymakers might not know about is Castellfollit de la Roca – a narrow hilltop village in Catalan.
The small village sits on the outskirts of a well-known nature reserve in the region called La Garrotxa Volcanic Area Nature Reserve.
According to Rustical Travel, a travel blog that specialises in writing about “undiscovered” parts of Spain, said: “La Garrotxa is one of Catalonia’s natural wonders.
“If we had to choose one exceptionally beautiful and unspoilt natural area in Spain, the entire Garrotxa region would be a strong candidate.”
As you might have guessed by its name, the national park is home to more than 40 volcanoes.
While the volcanoes are no longer active, their cones, vegetation and landscapes entice holidaymakers to the region.
The park area is divided into two distinct areas: High Garrotxa and Lower Garrotxa.
In High Garrotxa, tourists can expect to find rugged scenery and rocky valleys, while Lower Gattotxa is home to vast plains.
The most popular activities in the volcanic park include walking hiking and cycling, with plenty of routes available for all levels of fitness.
There’s also the Salto del Molí dels Murris, a huge cascading waterfall, which has been described as one of the park’s best-kept secrets.
In addition to exploring the natural scenery, holidaymakers are also encouraged to visit the hilltop village of Castellfollit de la Roca.
Located between the Fluviá and Toronell Rivers, and set atop a basalt rock face, the village has been described as one of the most picturesque in Catalonia.
Parts of the village date back to the Middle Ages, with points of interest including Sant Salvador Church.
Both the Spanish village and the national park have been praised by some holidaymakers on TripAdvisor.
One person wrote: “A very well looked after place, you can walk around many volcanoes and have a fantastic forest-bathing experience.”
Another said: “A great place to take a photo. I’m always on the search for places that are so rare, and it’s not often I have the chance to enjoy them.”
While a third added: “The Volcanic Zone is well worth exploring. Unfortunately, we only had time to take the short walk into the forest and we explored a little beyond the trail.”
The closest airport to Castellfollit de la Roca is Barcelona Airport, which is a two-drive from the Spanish county.
Both Ryanair and Vueling operate direct flights from UK cities like London and Birmingham, with prices starting from £18 for a one-way ticket.
Accommodation in Castellfollit de la Roca is a little pricier, with an overnight stay at Hotel Cal Sastre, a four-star hotel, costing £61 per night per person, based on two people sharing a room.
Castellfollit de la Roca isn’t the only part of Spain that seems to have gone under the radar in recent years.
One of those places is Almodovar del Rio in Andalusia.
Located between the Guadalquivir River and the Sierra de Hornachuelos Nature Reserve and mountain range, Almodovar del Rio is a Spanish hilltop town.
One of the town’s main attractions is its medieval castle, which had a starring role in the seventh season of the hit TV show Game of Thrones.
Meanwhile, this little-known Spanish holiday resort is soaring in popularity and has hotels from £15.
And another Spanish hotspot is attracting more visitors.
