THOUSANDS of women have been warned their breast implants could cause a deadly cancer.

Pharmaceutical company Allergan announced a global recall of Biocell textured breast implants in 2019.

It came amid links to a fast-growing cancer called anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL).

However, many women have not been officially told of the risk they face and others only heard through word of mouth.

Medical negligence solicitors Leigh Day are representing more than ten women in Britain who have the cancer.

Partner Maria Panteli said: “We believe we’re seeing the tip of the iceberg.”

She fears it could be as big as the 2010 scandal after 47,000 Brits had PIP breast implants with unapproved silicone gel.

Ms Panteli said: “This time it seems there isn’t the same awareness.”

Brittany Ackroyd, 43, is one of many women who had Allergan replacements for PIP implants.

The Nottingham-based sports therapist said: “Nobody had contacted me.

“I couldn’t believe this was happening all over again.

“It’s absolutely devastating. I feel like I’ve got this bomb inside me.

“Why was the PIP scandal so widely publicised, but this has gone under the radar?

“There must be thousands of women like me who didn’t find out until it was too late — or still don’t know what’s going on.”
