THIAGO SILVA and Reece James have issued grovelling apologies following Chelsea’s dismal performance on Saturday.
The Blues fell to a crushing 4-1 defeat against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Both Thiago Silva and Reece James were culpable in their side’s hammering – putting in uncharacteristically poor performances.
The Brazilian’s sloppy pass to Joelinton led to the Toon’s third strike, that effectively killed the game.
After the game, Silva took to social media to admit full responsibility.
“I’m devastated. It wasn’t a good day for us.,” he wrote.
“I would like to apologize to everyone for the defeat, especially to my teammates who believe in me and support me every day.
“I take full responsibility. Let’s gather strength and come back stronger.”
James also had a day to forget – first getting clotheslined by Joelinton and then getting into a spat with Newcastle assistant Jason Tindall.
Worse was to come in the 73rd minute when he received his marching orders for a second yellow card.
The captain also took to Instagram to say he was sorry.

James posted: “I take full responsibility for my red card today, two silly mistakes. Another lesson for me to learn. I’d like to apologise to the fans and my teammates.
“The performance today was far below our standards but this game does not define us!
“We’ve made huge improvements this season against many top teams. We’ll be back next weekend.”
