A CAR expert has shared three motors on which Brits could save hundreds in insurance payments.
Mo from Behind The Wheel praised these cheap-as-chips rides as great for anyone “struggling” with the insurance market amid a cost of living crisis.

In a clip uploaded to TikTok, Mo said: “Some cars have become cheaper over the last couple of years but insurance has absolutely skyrocketed.”
All cars are ranked in insurance groups which give a rough idea of how affordable they are to cover.
There are 50 insurance groups and all three of the cars Mo recommended are ranked in groups one to five, making them among the cheapest out there.
All average prices are according to data from Finder.
VW Polo

Insurance Group: 5
Average premium for drivers aged ages 20-30: £1,126
Average premium for drivers aged 20-50: £703.50
The Polo appears on just about every list of the cheapest cars on the market for a reason.
Comfortable, reliable and economical, it can easily be picked up second-hand for under £4,000.
The 1.2-lite engine makes it great for getting the most out of the tank
Just be cautious with Polos made between 2005 and 2007 as a recall was issued for 433 units made in that time over a potential wiring fault which could cause the seat to catch fire.
Eight tips to save hundreds on car insurance
According to SheTalksCars
Buy in advance – 23 to 26 days before you need cover is the sweet spot
Add a named driver – even a learner can knock money off
Try different parking places – a garage isn’t always cheaper
Choose the right job title – make sure they are always accurate
Shop around – comparison websites are your friend
Pick a multi-car policy – share it with others in your household
Add your licence number
Pay annually rather than monthly – save yourself interest payments
If your Polo falls within that timeframe, check with VW to see if it was affected and if the issue has been fixed.
Kia Rio

Insurance Group: 3
Average premium for drivers aged ages 20-30: £1,046
Average premium for drivers aged 20-50: £653.50
A little more expensive than the Polo upfront, the Rio’s average insurance cost represents a saving of about £50 a year compared to its VW rival.
Mo said: “To be fair it’s not a bad looking first car.
“It’s great on fuel… it will give you an average of 60mpg.”
One of these will set you back about £5,000 second-hand but provides the same engine capacity as the Polo while being a bit cheaper to insure.
You can also get a newer one for the price, with a Mo finding a 2015 Rio compared to a 2010 Polo.
Vauxhall Corsa

Insurance Group: 5
Average premium for drivers aged ages 20-30: £1,126
Average premium for drivers aged 20-50: £703.50
The Corsa has long been one of the UK’s favourite models and sits in the same insurance group as the Polo but is about £1,500 more expensive.
Like the VW, it’s cheaper than the Kia in terms of out-the-door price but costs more to cover once it’s on the road.
Mo found a 2015 Corsa for £5,700, though older ones can go for less.
Again, just watch out for models from around the time of a couple of recalls, in the date range from 2003 to 2006.
DVSA recalled 217,374 units from this period in 2006 and 15,271 in 2015 over a potential fire risk due to water getting into the ABS system so check your Corsa’s VIN and contact Vauxhall to see if yours was affected.
