The worst row on every plane as agreed by flight attendants from top UK airlines

PICKING the best seats on the plane can depend on several different factors.

Some people sit where the turbulence will be felt less, while others pick the seats they know will be furthest away from children.

However, flight attendants from leading airlines like TUI, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and easyJet, have told luxury membership platform, Velloy, their top travel tips and hacks.

Included in that were the worst row and worst seats to sit in, particularly on short haul journeys.

It turns out that row 11 is the least enjoyable place to sit on a flight, due to it usually being the middle row.

Most flight attendants have recommended avoiding booking seats on this row as passengers there are almost guaranteed to be the last off the plane.

Passengers looking to make a quick retreat from the plane should specifically avoid seats 11A and 11F.

Those seats are likely to be window seats, meaning it will take longer for passengers there to get off the plane once they arrive at their destination.

What’s more, the people sat there are also most likely to go hungry.

Tara, a cabin crew member from TUI, said: “If you are heading on a short-haul flight, you’re likely to fall short on food by sitting in the middle of the plane.

“If you are planning on getting any form of drink or snack from the bar on board a short-mid haul flight, then sitting towards the front or toward the back is 100 per cent the way to go.

“If you sit in the middle, especially on your way home, we are much more likely to have sold out of whatever it is you want because we always start at the front and back and work towards the middle.”

For those worried about missing out on a meal on board, or at least getting food they like should consider bringing a cup of instant noodles with them.

The flight attendants will be more than happy to fill it up with water for them – and it guarantees that they’ll get something to eat, even if the cabin crew run out of snacks.

What’s more, they’re an affordable option, with shops and restaurants in the airport ramping up the prices of their food.

A Virgin Atlantic flight attendant said: “I’d always recommend bringing a sealed, just add water, an instant meal such as Pot Noodles or Pasta n Sauce in your hand luggage.

Airlines with the best plane food

Korean Air

Korean Air won best airline cuisine in last year’s Global Traveler’s awards.

Some of their popular dishes onboard include bibimbap, a Korean rice dish, and ssambap, Korean rice lettuce rolls.

It also made the top 10 for airlines with the best plane food in CN Travelers 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards.

Japan Airlines

Coming in first place in the Reader’s Choice Awards was Japan Airlines.

The airline has partnered with six Michelin-star chefs, each of whom have three stars – so you can expect it to be good.

Passengers can choose bento boxes and miso soups onboard.

Singapore Airlines

Often voted one of the best airlines in the world, it is no surprising Singapore Airlines is said to have some of the best plane food.

Chef Dennis Littley said: “Their gourmet meals rival those of ground-based restaurants.”

Dishes include congee, a rice porridge, as well as Singaporean rice and curry options.

“By bringing your own instant meal, it’s assured that you can have a warm meal that you’ll like mid-flight and that suits your dietary requirements.

“You’ve also still always got a backup snack with you just in case your meal didn’t fill you up.

“Another great thing about this hack is that pot noodles are cheap, and will cost far less than all the snacks you could buy in the terminal.”

There are some foods that flight attendants recommend passengers avoid on board their planes.

Alcohol

Most flight attendants advise passengers to skip the booze while on board planes.

This is because it affects bodies differently during flights, due to the altitude.

It makes people more dehydrated than usual, while fizzy drinks like prosecco or drinks with mixers, will leave passengers feeling bloated.

Salty foods

Salt has a similar effect on the body to alcohol in that it can make people dehydrated.

During a flight, eating too much salt can lead to headaches and fatigue, and can make jet lag worse as a result.

Meanwhile, this is why your plane food is always terrible – and which meal option is the tastiest.

And this is where you should sit on the plane if you want the best food.
