The top 10 holiday destinations to visit in 2024 – and a Brit-loved European island makes the list

PICKING a holiday destination isn’t always easy – with so many options to choose from.

However, new figures have emerged to show which places are going to be the best destinations to visit in 2024, to give you a little bit of inspiration.

The data, released by holiday rentals company Airbnb, has highlighted some surprising destinations that are going to be big next year.

And it appears that travel next year has a lot of surprises and emerging new trends in store, including adventures to Japan, celebrations in Brazil and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, some tried and tested holiday favourites are still going to be clear favourites among holidaymakers.

The list was put together based on worldwide searches from January 1, 2023 to September 30, 2023 for future travel between certain dates next year.

1. Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

Top of Airbnb’s list of 2024 holiday destinations is Indianapolis, USA, which many might see as a surprise inclusion.

The city is famed for its 500-mile-long car race the Indy 500, which takes place in May every year.

The city’s other highlights include the Children’s Museum, its central canal and the Benjamin Harrison presidential site.

2. Warsaw, Poland

Second on the list is an emerging city break destination in Europe, with the Polish capital growing in popularity.

One thing Warsaw has on offer in abundance is food, with pierogi (Polish dumplings) and borsch among the city’s best loved dishes.

Meanwhile, the historical old town and the many palaces and ornate buildings make it one of the more attractive capitals on the continent.

3 and 4 – Osaka and Kyoto, Japan

Since it reopened its doors to travellers after the Covid-19 pandemic, Japan has rocketed in popularity and it seems people are keen on discovering the country beyond Tokyo.

In third and forth places respectively, Osaka and Kyoto are high up on people’s travel wish lists for next year.

Osaka is well-known for its food culture, with dishes like okonomiyaki (savoury Japanese pancakes), udon noodles and teppanyaki grills increasingly popular.

Meanwhile, the former capital of Kyoto is historically fascinating, with sites like Nijo castle and the Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine high on the agenda.

5. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Much like Indianapolis, Buenos Aires is growing as a sports tourism destination, with famous football clubs like Boca Juniors and River Plate high on the agenda for ground-hopping fans.

Its colourful neighbourhoods, gaucho-inspired cuisine and tango dancing are also popular reasons why people are heading to the Argentine capital.

6. Marrakech, Morroco

Marrakech is relatively close to the UK, with flights under four hours, but it feels like another world.

Its endless winding streets, ornate gardens and palaces and access to deserts and the Atlas Mountains make it a great place to visit.

7. Salvador, Brazil

Salvador is becoming a more popular holiday destination for people heading to Brazil, with the city labelled as the country’s “cultural epicentre”.

One of the main reasons to visit Salvador is for its carnival, said to be one of the most authentic in the country.

Some say that “the true African flavour of Brazil’s Carnival tradition” can only be experienced at the Carnival in Salvador.

8. Paris, France

Paris is always a popular holiday destination, but more people than normal are hoping to head to the French capital this year.

The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 until August 11 and people from all over the world will flock to witness some of the world’s greatest athletes going head to head.

Sights like the Eiffel Tower, the Sacre Coeur and the Louvre are among the things they can take in while they’re there.

9. Dusseldorf, Germany

Dusseldorf, like a lot of German cities, is known for its beer, with the city popular with stag dos.
