St Abbs on the southeastern coast of Scotland has been twinned with New Asgard
New Asgard was a fictional alien refugee settlement in Avengers: Endgame
Places like Edinburgh and Gloucester are known for their ties to the Harry Potter franchise.
But St Abbs, on the southeastern coast of Scotland, rose to fame as one of the filming locations in Avengers: Endgame, starring Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson.
The hit film features a band of superheroes who are battling to save Earth from a powerful alien foe.
While large chunks of the film are undoubtedly recorded in a studio using a green screen, St Abbs provided the backdrop for New Asgard (a fictional alien refugee settlement).
More recently, it was also used as a location for the Harry Styles music video, “Adore You”.
In recent years, holidaymakers have been raving about the UK town on TikTok.
TikTok user Waysofthefork posted all about their day trip to the small Scottish town.
In the video, they visited several filming locations including the road sign that has twinned St Abbs with New Asgard.
The video has had more than 400,000 views with other visitors sharing their desires to go in the comments.
One person wrote: “This is the number one place I want to go to on my bucket list.”
Holidaymakers have also been raving about the famous filming location on Tripadvisor.
One person wrote: “It was great to see where the movie was shot.”
While another said: “I’ve always loved St Abbs even before the popularity boomed as a result of Marvel. The place is ideal for a walk around.”
A third added: “For the Marvel fans, take a trip to the visitor centre to see some Marvel-related items.”
St Abbs is a 60-minute drive away from Edinburgh, and a two-hour journey via train.
Any budding film fans will want to make a beeline for the New Asgard sign as well as the Marvel memorabilia in the St Abbs visitor centre.
As well as touring the town and its filming locations, St Abbs is also home to one of Britain’s most accessible seabird colonies at St Abb’s Head.
At the large nature reserve, visitors will be able to spot Puffins, Kittiwakes, and razorbills.
For the prime coastal views, it’s best to visit St Abb’s Head early in the morning.
Other activities in St Abbs include a visit to the lighthouse, the market, and a walk around the harbour.
Starney Bay is also a popular swimming spot for divers and snorkelers who want to spot marine life in the clear waters.
St Abbs Charters also offer a range of wildlife tours including boat rides where holidaymakers can see seals, dolphins, and even the occasional minke whale.
Prices start from £25 per person and tours often run on a Wednesday.
Accommodation options in the town are limited to caravan sites and a few holiday cottages that are further inland.
Sample a bite to eat with views of the harbour at the Ebbcarrs Cafe, which serves a range of hot drinks and sandwiches.
Other parts of the UK have also become famous thanks to the film industry.
The Kent town of Margate was featured in the new Hollywood blockbuster Empire of Light, starring Olivia Colman.
